    All,

I figured that getting a flight out of Manang would be near impossible. But does anyone know how long it takes to hike back down to Besi Sahar from Manang?

You could get out from Manang to Besi Sahar in 3 days easily...

    Greg

In October I walked out from Hongde to Bhulbhule in 4 days and got the bus next morning to Dumre. They were long hard days and I had a porter, but then again I was not feeling 100%. I stayed in Hongde for 2 days trying to get a flight out but with no luck - the flights are cancelled regularly due to weather.
Besisihar to Manang is 90klm (according to the Round Annapurna Trekking Profile). To do it in 3 days would be very tough indeed imho.

    Hope this helps,
    Mark

About as long as it takes to cross the pass and go to Jomsom: 3-4 days.

WikiTravel says that, as of 10/06, a guide is required for most of the AC. That so? here's the link to that page

No you don't need a guide. THere was an attempt by TAAN (Trekking agents of Nepal) to put in a system called TRC - Trekking Registration Certificate - which would have required all trekkers to have at least one guide or porter booked through......a TAAN agency, of course. It wasn't properly ratified by the government and died after a couple of months. Now we have TIMS, also thrust upon us by TAAN and which will at least allow independent trekking. You will need to get the bit of paper though (When it's available) from either a TAAN agency or the NTB.

TAAN say this is all about trekker safety but what they really want is a commercial monopoly where every trekker pays them huge sums of money.

Search this forum for TIMS and you can find out more.
