Default travel adaptor/charger for nepal.. help!!

    Hi

apologies to those on LP thorn tree for the cross posting..

I am looking for a recommendation for a branded reliable safe travel adaptor that plugs safely into a nepali sized 2 pin plug socket ( one where the 2 pins are 1mm or so larger than a european 2 pin) with a usb port on it. I want a safe interface between the nepal power supply and a usb socket. fulfilling the function of this: <http://tinyurl.com/m59ak2m> but can be a bigger unit if thats all there is

OR: a branded reliable safe travel adaptor that plugs safely into a nepali sized 2 pin plug socket, without usb but with euro 2 pin instead
and i'll plumb in one of these <http://tinyurl.com/m59ak2m>

My reasoning is that a UK 3 pin plug is bulky and heavy. i don't want to carry any chargers with a UK 3 pin on them. I'm intending to charge all my devices by charging up a Pebble Explorer lithium battery pack via the nepali electricity supply. This charges using usb only. Then using this portable power pack whilst trekking to charge a phone, camera and ipod touch via usb

I'm not intending to plug any of my devices directly into the nepali power supply because of the risk of surges etc. So hoping that the battery pack can be the victim if something is going to be damaged by a surge...

perhaps the piece of kit I am looking for doesn't exist?

many thanks to any one who has the patience to answer this dilemma for me!

    cheers

    knitted

    CKKGTT Solar Charger on Aliexpress

    Cost: $60.00 USD
    Weight: 232 grams
    Power: 6W
Size: Same size as a clear plastic CD case when opened & closed.

I think that this is the best USB charger you can use in Nepal.

Have it strapped to the top of your pack

Only problem is that you need to have sun, but you'll never run out of power.

    Cheers, Jack

P.S. You can also buy a nice cloth pouch to protect this solar USB charger from the same seller on Aliexpress. Worth getting in my opinion.

    One more piece of advice...

I know your in the UK, but try to select all you chargers (for laptops, camera, phones, etc) to have a USA plug, but will operate at 230VAC as well. All 'switch mode' power supplies which are 99% of all of today's chargers that come with mobile phones, laptops and cameras work on a wide voltage range from 85VAC to 260VAC, so voltage should not be an issue if you buy a charger for the USA market.

    Why ?

The USA 2-prong (2 pins, without earth) is the smallest, lightest, most compact power plug around.

Then buy <country of visit> to USA adapter. Even at home use a UK to USA adapter.

You can then buy (eBay, Aliexpress, etc) USA power boards, USA double adapters and so on, which are always considerably smaller than a UK version.

The USA 2-prong (2 pins, without earth) plugs are preferred over the USA 3-prong (3 pins, with earth) plugs for traveling because they are 33% lighter and more compact.

You will not need earth if your equipment is made from plastic.

While the USA mains equipment is rated for 115VAC it is quite satisfactory for 230VAC use.

I'm a veteran traveler with over 30 years of O.S. travel experience, so I know from experience.

    The rule is...
Get USA plugs on all your equipment. Then buy an adapter for it. This works best.

    Cheers, Jack
