Default Remains found in Himalayas believed to be those of missing Perth trekker Matthew Allp

Human remains discovered in the Nepalese mountains are believed to be that of a Perth man who went missing last November.

Matthew Allpress, 23, had been on a 10-day solo trek and his family raised the alarm after he failed to communicate with them for several days.

They launched an extensive social media campaign, #FindMatt, to find him and the associated website today published a statement saying remains were found on Saturday by locals foraging about an hour off the main track.

Nepalese police went to the site yesterday and reported finding some personal belongings and equipment of Mr Allpress.

"On 10th May two local Nepalese people foraging in the mountains above Sikles, about one hour off the main track found human remains," Findmatt.com.au reported.

"On 11th May, four Nepalese Police along with an ACAP Office went to the site and reported finding some items of personal equipment belonging to Matthew, who has now been missing in the Annapurna region for just over six months.

"The police are still at the site today gathering information."

The website says Matthew's mother is in Nepal and his father will arrive today.

"Matt's family and close friends ask for respect at this difficult time," the website said.

The creative design graduate was due to fly back to Australia on November 14 last year, but never boarded his flight.

Extensive air and land searches failed to find any sign of the 23-year-old, who was well-travelled and had trekked before.

A concert was held in January to raise funds for continued efforts to find Mr Allpress, including helicopter and dog searches.

Heavy snow cover forced the suspension of further searches from early February to late last month, but subsequent searching failed to find any signs of the man.

Mr Allpress had been trekking alone in the Annapurna region of Nepal.

Hm... Sad. I wander, what will emerge, if a proper investigation can take place.
