Angry Free individual tourist will ban trekking in Nepal

I think from Tomorrow 11th of May 2014 onward free individual tourist ban trekking for all over Nepal.
FIT tourist whom got FIT TIMS card already could travel but after all trekking must have to take one Staff yet list.
Tomorrow 11th May TAAN and JTCC will plan to close FIT TIMS counter in Nepal tourism board.
There are few trekkers lost in mountain and those parents and relative inform of TAAN and diplomatic office do not trek alone and trek must with Guide.

For more information asked in TAAN or TAAN President MR.Ramesh Dhamala .

    Webmaster says:
    DON'T WORRY TREKKERS:
Only ONE TIMS counter has been affected. All the TAAN counters are open and issuing TIMS cards.

No need to worry or change your plans

Oh dear. The greed of the big agencies dressed up as concern for trekker's safety is going to result in less people going trekking, including me. I'll probably still visit Nepal but I won't go trekking and I won't be forced to hire a guide. What a pity.

    Update
    Date .11/05/2014
JTCC shuts TIMS counters at NTB

Joint Tourism Coordination Committee (JTCC) shut down Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) Card sales counter for Free Independent Tourists (FITs) situated in the premises of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) on Sunday morning.
More than 100 representatives of JTCC padlocked the counter at around 7 am.

To make sure that foreign tourists are not affected by the closure of counter at NTB, JTCC has asked FITs to take TIMS cards from TIMS Counter at TAAN Secretariat in Maligaun.
The padlocking of TIMS counter at NTB is a part of weeklong protest announced by JTCC – a forum of more than 20 travel trade associations.

JTCC has been launching series of protest putting forth four-point demand before the government. Among others, the demand includes removal of Subash Nirola from the post of acting CEO of NTB to pave the way for early appointment of new CEO, independent audit of expenses made by NTB over the past five years, and institutional representation of private sector in the board of NTB.
On Friday, JTCC had organized an interaction with lawmakers of different political parties on their demands. At the program, lawmakers like Chham Bahadur Gurung, Ghanashyam Pun, Krishna Dhital, Kishor Singh Rathaur, Sita Giri, Gauri Oli and Mohan Singh Rathour, said as NTB has been established on the model of public private partnership it should work to uphold the public private partnership. They also said they would express solidarity with the demands put forth by JTCC if required.
Office-bearers and representatives of different travel trade associations, tourism workers and media persons, among others, were present on the occasion.

It's hard to visit all of Nepal as an independent trekker as it is. Some areas you cannot find information, some areas you can only go to with a group. Or when you just show up in a place, you cannot get a permit. It just does not make sense and not being able to get a TIMS makes it even harder to comply with the rules.

It is as if they are forcing you to go underground... And they make it very hard to be flexible.

    Hello my name is 'money'.

Team Work and Team Building time for Safe and Social Lifestyles. Joke?

Categorize and fix a rate for a guide. 1:1 make it easy work and 1:6 may get better tips. One guide for a group of up to 5 or 6 trekker is not a bad idea for safety. Everybody honestly share the charge and expect fair service. There are some crook/selfish guides .... in every corner of the earth.

There are some places almost impossible to see due to restriction on numbers of visitors means money does not work. Only lucky bastard get a chance.

Crazy world !! Safe Trek !!

    Update..
Tourism entrepreneurs begin relay hunger strike

Agitating travel trade entrepreneurs have begun a six-day relay hunger strike on the premises of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) to pile pressure on the government to address their demands.

Organizing a press meet in Kathmandu on Thursday, Joint Tourism Coordination Committee (JTCC) unveiled second phase of protest programs.

As per the protest program, 25 representatives of different travel trade associations started 12-hour hunger strike from Thursday itself. The relay hunger strike will continue for the next six days.

Addressing the program, Ramesh Dhamala, coordinator of JTCC and president of TAAN, said they would announce strong protest programs if their demands are not addressed in the next six days. “We met Prime Minister Sushil Koirala today and apprised him of our demands. He is positive toward our demand,” Dhamala said, adding, “We are always ready to sit for talks; we would withdraw our protest once our demands are addressed.”

JTCC has said that they would give continuity to the sit-in protest program along with the relay hunger strike.

Keshav Pandey, senior vice president of TAAN, and Ram Saran Thapaliya, president of Thamel Tourism Development Committee (TTDC), also spoke on the occasion.
