  1. Re: Trekking independently but joining guided climb?

Thanks. It would be great to get back from Chukkung to Lukla via Mera - no idea if anyone's likely to be running such a trip.

Good to know I can book Chukkung-Imja Tse-Chukkung. I assume it would...
  2. Trekking independently but joining guided climb?

    Greetings all!

I'm back in Nepal 5th-29th April. I fancy Jiri->Everest Region. It would be great to make it to Nangpa La or do something really interesting up there, trekking-wise. (I've hiked the...

    Re: Wristwatch with altimeter

I'll just add another vote for the whole concept of altimeter watches. A couple of benefits that might be rather unexpected:

    1. Simply knowing the current altitude (even approximately) helps...

Re: ?favorite day hike from Gokyo

Another option from Gokyo is to the Renjo La (assuming you're not already heading that way). It's quite a dramatic pass, the views are similar to Gokyo Ri (it really is an alternative to Gokyo Ri,...

6th Lakes (Cho Oyo South Base Camp) for absolute otherworldliness. It's a _long_ day - take lots of food - there'll be no-one else there. Tiny video here:

Just wow. I've never seen Manang look like that. Here's a shot I took just after Manaslu in Nov 09 - couldn't be more different:

Re: Mobile coverage in the Everest region?

Thanks Landfall - pretty much what I was looking for.

(Sad for holidaying trekkers, of course, but a great boon to the locals. Ah well.)

I'd normally be right there with you, but sadly the need to be reachable at short notice is unavoidable.

Mobile coverage in the Everest region?

Does anyone have recent information on mobile phone coverage in Khumbu? I know Namche and EBC have coverage; how about Gokyo, Tengboche, etc?

    Thanks!

    A Tale:

I trekked the AC in May 1994 with a group of six other people; we'd all been travelling alone and had met up in Kathmandu via the Kathmandu Guesthouse's message board. We called ourselves...

I think Lars is talking about Tongba: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tongba

Re: Nepal via India - new Indian visa rules

    Re: Gokyo/EBC/Island Peak Itinerary

Just remembered that I took a short video at Cho Oyu base camp (slightly beyond the sixth lakes - as far as you can reasonably go):

Re: Nepal via India - new Indian visa rules
