    Re: High Altitude Insurance Cover

Why bother it is just a few hours above 5000 on a mule track. If your were going climbing, as Petrus has done, it would be a point, but not for Thorung La.

Re: Recommend EBC or Annapurna Circuit?

If you are just hiking the normal "tea house" trekking route you are better off without a porter or guide. There are nice lodges and resturants ALL the way, just waiting to cater for you.
  5. Re: Combining Annapurna Circuit and Annapurna Base Camp

I would walk up to Manang a little faster, and spend time in Manang hiking in the suroundning hills. There are som nice day hikes, e.g., Kang Tso and Kira Gompa. It is also a nice village to hang out...

Re: 5 days trekking from Nimche Bazar

I support that. Better to use the time you have in Namche doiing day hikes, to Khumjung, Tengboche, etc.

Re: 5 days trekking from Nimche Bazar

Namche is less than two days from Lukla.

Pokhara, once upon a time, was a road head, where you started treks. It no longer is. A short trek you can do is Dhampus, Gandrung, Ghorepani, and then...

Re: Clothes to wear after a long days trek

That is right on, how we do. Always two pairs of shoes, not just to get dry, but also to allow some rest and a change of environement for the feet.

Trekkerman: Yakshaver is always hilarious, no...

Re: Clothes to wear after a long days trek

We always carry some clean shirts, etc, in case there is something happening locally. Then, the locals appreciate if you appear neat and clean.

Normal trekking days at lower elevations we might...

    Re: Anyone know if its..

I am afraid Petrus is right. Climbing in Nepal is managed as a planned economy, in India it was known as Licence Raj. Strictly enforced permits would be needed even for minor peaks, such as Gokyo Ri...

    Re: Anyone know if its..

No, that is not the case. The point is that you can not climb any of the peaks the government has chosen for you without considerable risk. That also goes for the peaks on either side of the Thorung...

Re: why trek all the way to Everest Base Camp?

Because it is interesting. However, if I had to make choice, to prioritise between Kala Patar and BC I woulf prefer Kala Patar.

Re: Langtang / Gossaikund trek: why less popular?

Langtang Valley is kind of a dead end valley, there is nowhere to go after Langshisa and the mountains are less high than in Khumbu or in the Annapurna area. There is really only one village in the...

    Re: Anyone know if its..

Yes, there are lots of peaks that are 6000 that can be done. Generally, peaks north of the Great Himalyan Range are more smooth, as there are less differences in altitude and less snow. There would...
  19. Re: 2 months in Napal now - where is the best places to go for this season?

    Splendid :)

If Nepal was not a cleptocracy, pretending to be a nanny state when it comes to mountaineering, there would be tea houses all the way to South Col., in season, and more importantly...
  20. Re: Nepal government decided Liaison Officers for trekking

  21. Re: 2 months in Napal now - where is the best places to go for this season?

It is a good season for hanging out in Kathmandu and Pokhara. As for trekking it gets really chilly on high altitude. Khumbu would be just fine up to Tengboche, above you need seriously warm gear....

What a jumble of ridiculous arguments! Cultural and ecological degradation. Infiltration of unwanted elements into Tibet. More dignified trekking.
