    Re: Dodgy road

screw that! I would get out and walk, they're not moving any faster than walking pace anyway.
  2. Re: Tribhuvan Airport - article by Kunda Dixit

I once found a toilet near Durbar Square that made the ones at TIA look like the Hilton. I don't think that it had ever been cleaned and I do mean ever.

    Re: Fitness

You really don't need a lot of fitness on the standard popular treks although as Rich points out, the more fitness you have the more you will enjoy the trip.

To put that in context, for my first...

Re: Bridge washed away on EBC trail

No mention of specific location in the article at all other than it was the "last one on the way to Mt Everest from here".

Again, my dodgy memory isn't all that great but the only bridge between...

Re: Bridge washed away on EBC trail

"The bridge was the last one on the way to Mt Everest from here..."

My very vague memory has a truss bridge between Pangboche and Dingboche next to this old bridge. I only took a picture of the...

    Re: Favorite Kathmandu Eating Places(again!)

You used to be able to get a good coffee from the place across the road from Fire and Ice above the bakery. Nice to sit out on the balcony and watch the mayhem down on the street with a coffee and...

Sticky: Re: Trekking Hints & Tips

Hi Iris, it depends on what you mean by "lighter" and "heavier" sleeping bags. You'll be spending a lot more warm nights down low than cold nights up high.
Most lodges have a blanket or 2 if you...
  8. Re: EBC layering question - advice appreciated! :)

You're definitely not going to be at any risk of freezing with the clothing that you mentioned. You could always wrap your sleeping bag around your shoulders if you're struggling.
  9. Re: EBC layering question - advice appreciated! :)

You may be a little cold at night in that combination but having said that, you're trekking in September which will be warmer. If would only be an issue for 2-3 nights if it was an issue.

    I've...

Sticky: Re: Trekking Hints & Tips

You could always wear both pairs of long johns under your soft-shell pants for the climbing day. Legs don't need to be as protected from the cold if your torso is well insulated and/or if you are...

Re: Advice on Footwear? Hike to EBC.

Clearly mistymyagi is used to flimsy footwear and unlikely to randomly twist an ankle. I've only ever owned 1 pair of hiking boots in my life (I bought them for my first trip to Nepal) and I hated...

    Re: Best boots

You've already got replies from some very experienced heads but I'll add my thoughts too.

Just wear whatever you find comfortable so long as they have a good sole design (vibram or similar).

    Re: Money

I haven't been for about 5 years but I always used the ATM's on arrival, I can only assume that they are just as reliable if not more so.

They used to only give you 20,000 or 30,000 rupees per day...

December is a lovely time in the Khumbu, don't discount that time of year. Yes, it gets quite a bit colder, but the weather is generally clear and fine (which adds to the cold nights I might add)...
