As part of gathering info and assessing risks, Americans might want to check out the new Nepal update on the state department web site dated 16 May.

I disagree James, there are plenty of things to take for granted in Nepal.
This is "more or less exactly" my opinion:
First you can take for granted the amazing beauty of the Nepali women, many of whom could go stright onto the cover of Vogue.
Secondly, if you have issues with that (as in some protestant puritanism stopping you from admiring them) you can take for granted the great quality of the Rakshi at The Thakali Kithchen in Durbar Marg (there again puritanism may stop you form enjoying this one too..., stopping you enjoying most good things if you think of it...).
Third thing you can definitely take for granted is the great polution in Kathmandu.
Fourthly, you can safely bet the tiger balm sellers (or sellers of khukri knives, or good quality hash, or good quality prostitution), as well as the beggars. Fifthly you can take for granted the hairy beauty of the yaks (and the lucious yeti woman lurking near Portse Tenga ready to jump on the unexpecting tourist as the next father for her next abominabme child - beware, might be you! If you have the balls that is. But that surely cannot be taken for granted...
