Dear Mike,
The trek around Annapurna was the first classical Trek in Nepal and you will find plenty of Lodges all around the way. I guess that more than 80%of the trekkers go on their own, half of them with a personal porterguide.
the advantage is, that you can go on your strikly personal pace and it will be much cheaper.
you should count between 20 and 28 days, a few people do it in 2 weeks, but they are missing a lot, just running through all the wonderfull villages.
I started often alone, just to meet people on the trek , some of them are still my friends after 15 years!
How would be a trekking day? Normaly, you will find lodges every 1-2 hours. so every one can make his own plan according to his day mood. some start early in the morning, some later afeter a good breakfast. But you will meet a lot of this people again in the evening at the same village!
The lodges are really international bee houses where people sit around the common tables eat and chat in the evening.
in the annapurna region you will get little doubble rooms for ~3$ a night, you should have your own warm sleeping bag( +-0°Comfort), even when you can get additional blankets in the lodges.
One can easely carry all his things alone (< 16 kg) but I reallized that the help of a porterguide can make the trek much more enyoyable. He would cost around 10 US$+ tip a day. if you want, i could give you the Email of my friend bachan, with whom I treked several times. Have also a look to my site www.nepal-dia.de, I hoppe you like the pictures.
Cheers Andrées
