Namaste!

I am planning an independent trek to the Annapurna Base Camp, and therefore looking for some partners as well as some advice. I am arriving Kathmandu on May 4, and plan to leave shortly thereafter. I can meet any potential partner(s) in both Kathmandu or Pokhara. Also how is the avalanche danger there around May? What about visibility, and temperature, particularly on higher altitudes? Also what kind of clothing and footwear would you recommend? Please reply either via email or this post. Thank you very much.

Hi Anup,
On avalanches danger please read Andrees posting on this page titled Avalanches Danger on the way to ABC. There are a couple of danger spots between Hinku Cave and Deorali and the important thing is to talk to the locals. But read Andrees posting for more details. Regarding the temperature, it will be hot and humid at the lower temperatures, but cooler as you move past Chomrong and up the Modhi Kohla. ABC can be cold at any time of the year, going to below 0. So a good sleeping bag, good boots, and a beanie are a must.
Enjoy the trip. ABC is definitely worth all the effort required to get there.
