Hi!
I am preparing for a 3-week trek to Kala Pattar/Everest Base Camp in May, and I have a few questions:
1) When trekking to an altitude of +18,000 ft. as I will be doing, do most/many people choose to take Diamox?
2) I am told that Cipro can be found pretty cheap in Kathmandu . . . does anyone know where, specifically?
3) How wet should I expect conditions to be in May?
Thanks!

Thank you very much for your plan to come to Nepal. Everest trekking is is very good trekking area. Yes it will better Diamox. But you can use cipro also. In Nepal cipro is not expensive. This is right. This cipro found speciality in Kathmandu. In may weather is good for trekking. In this time not cold.IN kathmand is little hot. You can trekking to everest basecamp and kalapather in 3 weeks.

Hi, Kerri:
I had taken Diamox on the same trek. I took 125mg (half pill) each time. It improved my respiration expecially during my sleep. However, it seem did not help much on my headache. I had to take Panadol in addition to that. You can buy Diamox in Themal in some supermarkets, at a very low price. 10 pills (@250mg) packing around Rs50.
Have a nice trip!

I would not take Diamox unless I had to. It will make you be up all night peeing, and it makes a lot of people tingle. I have been over 18,000 feet a number of times, and I have never taken it. It seems like the people who take it are the ones who then quit the trip early. Just take a few acclimitization days along the trek and enjoy some side trips.
