To all the people who encouraged myself and my wife to go to Nepal, we would like to say THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was an awsome trip.
We were there the month of December and we hiked the Annaprnna Round. The weather was perfect and we crossed the Thorung La Pass December 13th. There truly is less air at 5416 meters.
We had no problem with the weather, the pass was clear. The following day was different so we heard from other trekkers behind us. They had much snow.
We made wonderful friends in Nepal and we want to keep in touch with them. We know how to email them, but we have not figured out how to send a present to them. We would like to send some money, but we do not know if a check would be something they could cash. The money system seems very primitive and I am not sure if a check would be of something they could cash. Possibly a cashiers check would be better. Is there someone out there that can give me some advice as to how sending money would be done?
If anyone has any fears of traveling to Nepal I would highly recomend putting your fears aside and going. The people are marvelous and the Maoist situation does not seem to be a factor. We had no encounter with anything that made us have concern for our safety. Actually I felt safer than I have in any other country I have been to including my own. Unless things change drasticly I personally feel there is no threat to visitors.
Once again thank all who encouraged us to go.

Dear Dave
I have had money transferred from overseas to my account by telex transfer thru bank to bank.If the person you wish to send money have a bank account ask him/her to email it to you and instruct your banker to telex transfer the amount you wish to send.It is transferred within 3 days.Recently I had money transferred from Germany thru Western Union Money Transfer, it is sort of a banking system,I am sure you have an office in your city, once you deposit money to them ,they give you a ten digit code number, the receipent here, goes to an office of Western Union Money transfer here and upon reconfirming the code ,gets the money immediately.I got it within hour of deposit by my client in Germany.Oh Sorry,I am an adventure tour/travel operator based in Kathmandu.Hope this helps you.

Dont send any check in a letter to nepal. There is just a very little chance that he wil reach the person. I sended 3 letters with slides fotos to a friend, who wanted to make postcards, and only one reached him. Probably some postclerk thought that there could be some money bill or check in the letters. you might also like some of my pictures from annapurnaround in www.nepal-dia.de.

Hi Dave,
The only safe way to send money is to wire it.. bank to bank, as the mail tends to be opened and I have had to send photos one at a time, so whoever handles the mail can see through the envelope (and that there is no money inside). I have heard that some packages get through via UPS but many of these seem to disappear as well.. it is very frustrating, but I send presents with friends and also bring presents from other friends to people in Nepal when I return.. that works well!
