I have looked at severel web sites, and read several journals / blogs on the AC, it seems that the popular way to walk the route is clockwise. I was wondering why this was the case, do people walk anticlockwise and what are the major differences over the high passes? I was curious as to whether walking anticlockwise is doable and what your experiances were on this route. your opinions on which way is best woUld be appreciated.

Start from Besisahar (sp?) or you will have the day-from-hell climbing the Thorung La from Muktinath. There is some accommodation at the base of the hill; even so it would be hard work and a very long day rather than a "challenging but spiritually uplifting experience" as it can be doing it the popular way.
Either way you'll be stuck with the High Camp toilets :)
I know 3 folk who have done it the other way round and they all said, "never again". However if you want to test yourself ....

I went the wrong way round the first time as I originally did not plan to go over TL and I didn`t know anything about it. After several days of walking around Muktinath and Jarkot I went over the pass with a Swiss doctor.
if you are well acclimatised and fit then you should be OK
