Hi
I just did the Jomsom trek in Jan & hired a PorterGuide. He was $15 a day. It was money well spent as he had fluent English, new all the best lodges so we avoided bad food and he told us a lot of useful stuff along the way (he was also good fun). A porterGuide will carry around 15kg a day which is less than a porter (carries up to 30kg) however a porter probably wont speak English and wont help you along the trek. You can get a porter for around $10 a day. If you want details of my GuidePorter e-mail me.

I also get mild Ashma. I took my inhaler but it wasnt a problem. The Jomsom trek was amazing, superb scenary, cultural diversity and amazing Mountain views. The lodges are also the best in the region. You dont need a tent just a good sleeping bag as it does get colder higher up. You also need a good jacket (ideally Goretex) with fleecePile type layer and a base layer. You can hire gear in Pokhara if money is an issue. If you do the Jomsom trek its well worth doing the extra days to Muktinath as the scenary is worth it. We did it in 11 days starting at Nayapul. Good trekking.

Hi Brent, with 10 Days you could go either the jomson trek or to the annapurna base camp. Both treks are wonderful.
The jomson trek has more variety and is very interesting for its culture, especialy on the upper part around Kagbeni and Muktinath with its tibetan style villages. I would recomend that you fly to jomson, like this you have more time to see al the wonderful places. You will have splendid mountain views.
ABC is one of the greatest mountain sites in the world, but you will have less interesting villages, still Gandrung is worth seeing it.
Your asthma should not be more a problem than in lower altitude, but the air will be thinner. The jomson trek doest goes as high as does the ABC trek.
A porterguide is a really good idea, it can make the whole trek much more enjoyable. I can recomend my friend Bachan Rai with whom i treked already 4 times in the annapurna. Count around 10-12 $ a day. He could carry 25 kg and is very nice.
just send me an email.
You can have already a look to some of my pictures at www.nepal-dia.de , maybey it helps choosing the trek.
Cheers Andrées
