So I've got almost all of my gear together and I'm wondering if I need to bring my own towel. I know they sell those lightweight camp towels that are supposed to hold many times their won weight in water; do you all think I should bring one?
Thanks

would be a good idea
those lightweight camp towels
they are much more effective for their weight/size than any other towel
I'd always pack mine :)

They may suck up water but they feel like s$^t -- you never feel like you are getting dried....
Bring a small regular towel -- even a tea towel

You shouldnt need your own towel in the hotel.
On trek you will, I personally think the light weight towels are fine, (lifeadventure) etc, you need something that is light and going to dry out easy.
Showers are not always available on a trek, plus its cold, so a body wash is usually the best thing, and as you only do bits at a time so to speak, the towel copes ok with that. A small bottle of talc is worth taking, especially for your feet, I know Johnsons do a small talc.
Not quite so good if you are really hairy of course, like the LYM, dont suppose he washes anyway! :)

Also..... are you doing the Annapruna Circuit? Dont forget the hot springs at Tatopani, not to be missed, so you'll be wanting a towel there. And/or if you are going up the the Annapurna Sanctuary then there are some lovely hot springs at Jinu Danda (thats at the bottom of the hill just south of Chomrong).
Your hotel in Kathmandu should provide a towel, but lodges on the trails will not.

Thanks everyone, I'll bring a towel.
We will be doing the AC and perhaps the Annapurna Sanctuary as well.

The quality of towels for hiking is better than it used to be. I carry a white one in case I need it when the maoists are around.

Good on you Eric!
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy recommends strongly that you should never leave home without your towel. It is a must, and Zaphod will confirm this to you. It is the Guide's first, and possibly only, recommendation.

Actually, reading the guide again... "Don't panic!" is the only other major recommendation, appart from the advice on the towel.
