Alex,
I recently returned from a 4 week trek of Nepal and for the bulk of our trek, I used boiled water from the lodges we stayed at. We had no problems whatsoever, and the added bonus was that the boiling water at night also acted as a hot water bottle to keep us warm in our sleeping bags. We started by putting iodine in our water but after a while, even sweetened, the water tasted a bit funny.
As for the food, I guess it can test you, but again we had no problems. The only issue was variety for the teahouses/lodges pretty much all have the same menu.
I agree with Daniel....bring your own soft toilet paper.....
With travelling, no matter where you go, you just need to have your wits about you. Nepal is no different. Enjoy the experience. I know you will have a ball and cherish every moment of it....We certainly did...
Regards, and happy trekking
