I was in the Annpurna area 2 weeks ago, and heared about some unrest around Beni, but not involving tourists (as usual). Again that area has been sometimes plagued by thiefs well before the mao insurgency started, and single tourists have alvays been advised to attache themselves to other walkers for the portion from Beni to Tatopani. I hope this is the area you are talking about but I am not sure.
I have spent 17 days in Nepal finishng just last week, and felt quite safe as usual. I never sensed any threat at any moment, whether in KTD and the Valley, on the roads to Pokhara and Chitwan, on trek, Chitwan, Dhulikel etc. Speaking to other tourists who have been travelling to other areas, like Khumbu etc, they expressed the same feelings and views.
