I am planning to do this trek on about the 20th January, maybe the ABC trek instead. But I know it will be cold and the Jomsom trek seems preferable.
I will fly one way, probably from Jomsom to Pokhara.
Will it be too cold at this time of year, will there be many trekkers?
Also, does anyone want to join me?
Thanks,
George

Hi george,
I work as a independent trekking guide in Nepal and I am from Solukhumbu Everest Region. I would like to know that if you would like to book the trekking through guide I am sure that it would be cheaper then book through company. We are few friends who work likt this and we are all Goverment Licence holder guide.you could do Jomsom trek as in this season. That time would be very good weather. For the further information please check our web page and send us your email soon. We would be very glade to give you some information.

Hello George,
some years ago I treken the jomson trek in Dec/January and enjoyied it very much. Just be prepared for the very cold and have a good warm downjackets, longjohns hat and gloves. All these thing can be bought or rentet very cheap in Nepal.
ABC is also nice, but there is a high chance, that I will be closed so I would prefer to go the jomson trek.
Buy also some strips of codeine in Kathmandu, its about the only drug I know effective against the strong winter himalaya cought. I´m not joking, nearly every one is coughing his guts out.
In deep winter, the jetstreem is blowing sometimes so deep and southly that it touches the himalaya peaks. You see then in spotless blue sky some horizontal clouds surprisingly hanging on the high peaks. Its snow blown away in 200 km/h storms.
Thats the moment when jomson can be full with impatient people, sitting in the bright sun and waiting sometimes days for a flight. The problems are the turbuleces wich reach the lover part of the valleys.
Because of this, I would rather try to fly first to Jomson, it will be a little icy shock, but on the way back you will love ever smell when it stops to freece an warm your bones up in the hot springs of tatopani.
If there are no flights on the planned days, you still can just change the plan and walk up and hope that there will be a flight back in time.
If you are looking for ar porterguide, i could give you the adress of my friend and porter Bachan Rai, with whom I trekked already 4 times.

I ad just some word about magic places on this trek, I have postet before
Muktinath:
Dont miss the temple complex in Muktinath a have enought time to feel the spirit >2 hours . After crossing TL it is a good place for a rest day, visiting the monastery and the surounding villages Purang and Chaingur. 1 Day

Jarkoth
another tibetan style village, just 45 min from Muktinath Ranipauwa. From her you can make a wonderfull dayhike to Dzong, with a beautiful monastery an authentic village life. The people are still very religious and you have a fair chance to see some rituals 1 Day

Kagbeni:
This is really the place one should not miss, The old part is build like a kasbah and you can have a look to Mustang. My favorite lodge of the whole circuit is there: The new Annapurna lodge right in the old part. They have some special food. Many people stay one ore more days in Kagbeni, even if they had not planed to go there before. 1/2 or 1/2day

Marpha: Go to the big rockstupa, there is a good view from there and walk trough the little whitewashed streets. 1/2 day

The villages kobang and Larjung.
you dont need extratime, but it ist much nicer to go trough this villages, than in the riverbed.

Tatopani: Well, the hotsprings a definitively worth a whole day.
Food is excellent over there. 1 Day

Hi George,
Are you still looking for a trekking partner? I will arrive in kathmandu on Jan. 18th around noon and will stay at the Swoniga Hotel in Thamel. Anyway, I would like to fly (or bus) from Kat-Pokhara Jan 19th or 20th, then spend a day in Pokhara, and then fly to Jomsom, spend a day, and start the seven-day trek down to Pok. Is this something like what you are doing?
