Do it yourself or Not depends on your fitness, trekking/hiking experience. There are some camping gear shops at Namche; but, maybe expensive. On crossing ChoLa Pass in late October this year when weather was fine, snow level was low, Special equipment was not needed. Witnessed two rescues: a helicopter was called to rescue one Austrian man, member of a trekking agent. One Taiwanese (?) lad was carried down from the pass by her two guide/porter/s. Days later I was told she had gone.
N.B.If you cross the pass starting from Dragnag (4700m) as i did, fill up your water at Cho La pass Phedi campsite (about 2 litres needed untill the next stream.(Leisyasa?).
