I made a reservation at Kathmandu Guest House and with my confirmation I received the following message. I hope it helps those who are re-evaluating their trekking plans.

Subject: present situation !
Because our government is very determined to solve the maoiest problem which was started 7 years ago in the hilly region of Nepal, the Nepalese government has now declared the state of emergency. Consequiengly, the government has control a great deal of maoiest activities and hopefully seems to handle the situation within a month time. Although, the country is having the state of emergency, the day to day environment in Kathmandu is very normal and safe. That is why, in the first week of Janaury, the Head of the State of all South Asian countries are meeting in Kathmandu for the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) meeting. In the mean time, the government has recently announced a programme of reformation to provide quickest and prompt services for tourist at airport. This indicate that goverment is very serious and committed towards tourism in Nepal. For detail information please visit www.welcomenepal.com for recent update press release of NTB.
