If you could climb and go down the step hills of annapurna bases camp trek and the way to gorepani without big problems there is no reason that you should encounter them on the way to Kalar patar, wich is a beautiful trek.
You mention that you have plenty of time, that will be the key for nice days. In fact, you have less up and down than on the ABC trek, only you will do it far higher so plan and enjoy a perfect aclimatisation and the nice sherpas. There are plenty lodges on the way, so you dont have to hurry.
I met several people of the age of ~70 doing this trip. going with a personal Porter/guide would give you al the freedom to chose your own pace. It funny, most problems with altitude occur when people trek in a group and dont dare or want to say that they are suffering till its very late and serious.
