Thanks very much Andrées - the information above is very useful. I have one more question however - Will I need a Guide of any sort on this short trek or is the trail easy to follow? If you think that I should have a guide/porter-guide - can you recommend the best place to contact them??

Thanks again,

Dave......

Hi Dave,
for this trek you dont need a guide, a good map is sufficient. you might consider to have a porter with you, one sees more without the heavy backpack when the trail just seem to go verticaly to the skys. In Fact, this part of the annapurna region has only to possibilitis: 1 step up; 2. step down.
You could get a porter just by asking in your hotel in pokhara. When they speak some english they call themself porterguides.
Bargain hard in the hotel, your porter will have to pay back the difference of what you are paying and the low nepalese standard to the hotel manager. ~350 to 450 should be OK. But show a large hart by giving a big Tip (20-30%) at the end. The guys realy need it.
Between Ulleri and Gorepani and Gorepani and Tadapani there have been in the past some few robberies. so if you are trekking allone, just go together with some fellow trekkers on these trails.
Be sure not to miss the old village of Gandrung, unfortuonally the main trails passes about 10 min on the side. But it is really nice.
Good luck Andrées
