Hi All
Ive just been to my travel clininc & they advised me not to have the Rabies jab. However as im planning on doing the Jomsom trek I wondered how quick I could get attention in the unlikely event of a bite. So waht do all you trekkers think? Have you had the Rabbies vac?

thanks & good trekkiing Simon

Hello Simon,
Dogs in Nepal are normaly friendly and just sleepy in daytime, they keep al their forces for barking in the night. I never have met anyone being bitten by a dog in Nepal(I was there 14 times). So i guess the danger is not that hight. If you have been bitten, you always can be back to kathmandu to get your antiserum within a week and thats sufficient. In this case I would probably fly directly to Bankok, where healthservice is far better, if one if bitten by a animal with rabies (e.g.monkeys!) one has to get the antiserum quickly, after 10 days it is not helping anymore. If one had a vacination before, this time lap is 3 weeks.
If someone goes to tibet, I would take rabies vacination. There dogs are reincarnations of monks with bad behavior and in the new life they are even worse.
Good luck Andrées
