Hello,

I will be trekking in Nepal in January, a dream that I have had since I was a boy(Long time ago). Unfortunately I now have problems with my knees, which are fine as long as the going is not "too" steep. Is there a trek that is "relatively" easy as far as steep ascents and descents go.

Thanks

Blue

Hello Blue,
i went in April to Nepal with some friends aged from 56 to 63 years. One women of our group had problems with her feets and hip and I decided that we will not go to Everest but to Annapurna. We flew to Jomson, went to Kagbeni , and had some beautiful days around Muktinath.
I choose this trek for the following reasons:
1. Coming to Jomson, you are in a flat valley so that your can train slowly your feets
2. The ascent to Muktinath is difficult because you climb in high altitude, but the way goes steady up without nepalese staircases.
3. You are never further than 3 days from a possibility to fly back or take a bus
4. A the end you will have the excellent and healing hotsprings of Tatopani with helped al lot one guy of the group, who had knee problems. We just soaked him for 11/2days and he was fine again.
5. you will find al the times easely a horse, to carry you.

6. Its still one of the most beautiful Treks in Nepal!
no one of the group really knew, if we could do it, but every day we got stronger and healthier and enjoyed it very much

If you have Problems with your knees you should ust to stiks, its helps a lot and have a porter with you. I guess you will one of the great experiences of you Life, Nepal is just wonderful.
You can have a look to some pictures of theis area in my website www.nepal-dia.de

Good on ya Greg.

We would probably easily recognise each other on the trail too. THanks for all the good advice.

The Langtang valley trek is a relatively easy trek without very steep ascents/descents and yes, wear knee braces and use trekking poles.
