I think itīs better to let the guide pay for the food himself. We pay the full price and porters and guides get a lot of discount. Easiest is to pay the guide a fixed amount (I paid USD 10 per day) and let him arrange his own food. Just make sure you communicate it well before you start.
Itīs nice to buy him a coke, tea or sweets on a regular base.If you go to high altitude, make sure he has proper shoes and a jacket (you can rent it). There are blankets in the lodges.

Hello Daniel,

We are planning to do some trekking in the Everest region in March 2002. Could you recommend a guide/porter arrrangement in Lukla? There will be 2 adults and that is it.

Also do you have any accomodations to recommend for staying in on our return to Lukla for the night before our plane trip back to KTM?
