Hi Everyone,
I have a dumb question.
Our guide books give different answers so I was hoping you could help me. One book says the Bottled water is ok to drink, another says that it is not and you need to use iodine in it.
What is the truth? Can you drink the bottled water?
Thanks - Eric

Bottled water is sealed so you are generally O.K.if the seal is intact ..in the major tourist areas there is no problem. In the hills you should anyway be thinking of boiled and filtered water available at eco friendly lodges along the trail on major trekking routes and a splash of Iodine if you want to feel totally secure ...come back knowing you have not added to the mess. You can buy a good water bottle in Kathmandu,Happy trekking regards
Nick.

Not always but more common on the major trekking routes.Water should be boiled for over five minutes....this is the most important I have never had a problem with this..Iodine will do the rest if you feel it is neccessary.
Happy trekking Nick..

Just to add my two-bobs-worth, I have always used the Iodine Tablets and Neutralizer (vitamin C basically). They were Coleman brand I think. I guess I have decided to put up with the yukky taste for a short while while in Nepal. Never had any problems.
