I have heard stories that even though you have travel insurance, the helicopter pilot still requires you to pay $1000 up front before they pick you up from the trek. Is that true ? any recommendation for travel insurance company?
Thanks for any recommendation.

In the past there where at some occasions rescued people who didn´t pay the bill. So normaly, your ambassy has to garantie that the bill will be paid, before any helicopter is starting.
To speed up a possible rescue operation you can register at your ambassy and give your personal dates, number of your passport, phone numbers of relatives, the number of you insurance company and so far. As soon that they get the request, they can then react very quickly . Quiet a few even accept to keep your surplus of money and tickets when you are on the trek and encourage to do this .
Have a nice trek with no problems Andrées
