Hello,

I am in a group of 2 people going to Nepal this November and would like some recommendations on good guides to hire to do some trekking in Chitwan NP. I don't really fancy doing any of the package deals, you don't seem to get very long doing activities in the park.

Any advice on doing independent activities, a good guesthouse to stay in Sauraha etc. would be really useful.

Cheers,

Claire.:)

Every guesthouse in Sauraha has a guide or two and some are better than others... In Sauraha I staid at the Rhino Lodge, approximately opposite the the entrance in the National Park. After negotiations it became a very good deal at 25 USD per room per day. Very good conditions for this price, with Aircon, pleasant grounds, large rooms, clean, pretentious restaurant.

If you go in Sauraha, make sure you only go on the Elephant rides from National Park, as they are the only ones going inside the Chitwan Nat.Park

Still, after doing Sauraha a couple of times, I really appreciate the lodges inide the park. Much better programs, and you really get to be in the midle of the jungle. Better guides too. More expensive than Sauraha, but worth it. Unless you are with some hippy friends and there is some midnight party on the beach in Sauraha, with blueberry fizzy drink, mineralwasser mit no gas, special rolled up flora of some kind, full moon, romance... It can happen. As LeeAnne Rimes sings.
