Personally I've not seen it anywhere in KTM. I've always used kerosene. Messy and sooty as you say but okay.

i used the regular one. i assumed then that it was better than kero or diesel. imagine man thats the cleanest fuel they have. is kathmandu one of the most polluted cities in asia?off topic: sleeping in kongma la and cho la a great idea?i'm thinking of catching the sunrise in there. what do you think guys?

Not alot of water sources as far as I remember on the Gokyo side right near the Cho La, but I remember some lower down near the lodge. But there might be a fair bit of snow to melt after the inclement weather. Don't know about the Kongma La. Personally I would rather bivvy near the sixth lake at Gokyo than the Cho La.

There is a small stream in the valley below Cho la on Gokyo side but (between small pass and Cho la final slope). And just below Kongma la (Chukung side) there is a small lake. Those 2 places are closest flatlands suitable for camping. Except if you camp in snow on the top of Cho la.

Don't know when you are going but its all snow and ice right now, crossed Cho La on 23rd march.
