Vita,
There are other postings on this site asking questions about safety on treks on a regular basis. Following the Nepal news and reports from friends in Nepal, there is no safety issue for trekkers in either Annapurna or Everest area, and there has not been one from the Maoists point of view. It could happen in the future that some tourist may be hurt, but this has not happend up to now in all the years since the maoist insurgency started in remote western Nepal. The maoists, it seems, are just as interested in retaining the tourst dollars, the main avenue of income for Nepal. Like everywhere when travelling, you have too make sure you lock your lodge room when on trek and keep an eye on your belongings. Ocasionally incidents of theft have been reported, but not much else.
I have said it before, and it pains me to say it today in view of the terrible events that unfold in the US, traveling and trekking in Nepal is much safer than travelling to New York, London, Rome and many other "civilized" places.
