Can anyone confirm this or is it still necessary to change at Dumre??
And can you get Diamox in KTM??
Just wandering, thanks

There is a direct bus you can check out in any office in Kathmandu there was also a local bus running last season. It really does depend on the ravages of the monsoon wether the service is still running.
I am sure you will be able to buy diamox in Kathmandu(everything is possible) but it may be relatively expensive and you will not find it at local pharmacy stores.Perhaps it is worth saying here for anyone else reading this. You can save a fortune on medication by buying your general medical kit in Nepal(most medicines made under liscence in India).Anti biotics are cheap and there is no need for a perscription.
Good luck.
Nick.

hello,
You can easely get Diamox in Kathmandu. It is cheap and you dont need a prescription. If you go to higher altitudes you should also buy one strip of dexamethasone ( costs less than 1/2 $!). This is an emergency drug if you get HACE. You just should take it, if you are really in serious trouble. But it may help you, to survive a crucial night or go down on you own feets.
I´ve seen myself some people, who where not anymore able to walk by themself or to do anythink by there own, who recovered within half an hour.
But more important is a good prepatration. If you allow you a proper acclimatisation, the thorong la is not a mayor risk. Plan enaught days in the manang region, eg. the upper path from Pisang by Gyaru and Ngwal is an excellent preparation. If you have 3 extradays, the side travel to tilicholake is just wonderfull!
You can have a look to some pictures of round annapurnas in my webside www.nepal-dia.de
good luck Andrées
