Has anyone found out yet whether there is a hotel nearby the new BKK airport to catch a few Z's on an overnight stopover?

Last time I flew I got an overnight flight which arrived at BKK at 6am and the flight to KTM left at 10am so I just had to hang around for a few hours. That flight option isn't available anymore which means an overnight stop in Bangkok on this trip.

In the old Dom Muang airport I used to sleep in two places to catch on some sleep betseen arriving from Sydney and flying onto KTM:
Either the Amari Airport hotel (right in the airport, connected by an airbridge), or in the Airport Rooms, cheaper and not so luxurious, but you could just book them for 4 hours if you wanted... Or 6 hours or 8 hours.

The new airport, I have no idea, but I would look on the web and see where the airport rooms are. I am sure the new and modern airport has rooms for crashing for a few hours.

I hope this helps

Thanks Yak, I just needed to get off my butt and check google. There is a Novotel (http://www.accorhotels-asia.com/6183/detail/default.aspx) at the new airport connected by an underground walkway.

Although rooms start around USD150

I couldn't find any information on any rooms available inside the airport itself and I'll be arriving at 4pm so I probably don't want to hang around in the airport until 10am the next day anyway.

34 days to go.... :D

Thanks Ging, it took me a little while but I eventually found the rooms on the map.

Yakshaver: There is talk of reopening the old airport as the new one is having all sorts of problems with cracks in the runway "apparently". Google has the information (http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&rlz=1T4GFRC_en___AU206&q=bangkok+airport+crack+runway&meta=)

Hm, it des not sound too good. I was looking forward to fly into Suvarnabhumi in Bangkok soon... I was touted as this most amazing thing... Best thing since Hong Kong and Pudong (mind you Pudong was not exactly finished either, when I flew in there in 2004)

Spaceman, you wont have problems getting a reasonable priced hotel within 5 minutes. I didn't but a lady travlling over with on the same flight schedule did and was very happy with it. There is a booking desk on the bottom floor as you go out and they then arrange the shuttle on the spot. Thai kindly paid my accomodation and promptly put me in a dump downtown Bangkok.

Thanks Boulia, I booked a room at the Novotel because it was online and easy. I know that I probably could have just worked something out when I got there but I don't work so well when I'm tired so I took the easy option.

You'll be in KTM by now? Let them know I'm coming :D

Was there just over a week ago and was told the old airport had already been opened for domestic flights and yes the runways are all breaking up hence the move, not sure about international flights been diverted back there too. This on top of the fact I was told that the building itself leaked like a sieve is not the best start.....
