Hi,
Can anyone tell me if you still need to be in a group to recieve a trekking permit for the Kanchenjunga region? What kind of permits would I need to trek from Kath to, say, Darjeeling?
Thanks a bunch!

Hi Loom
Kanchenjunga is not on the tea house trail so it would be tenting with a group or alone if you are mega rich.If you are offered a really cheap trek thre is likely to be a lot of exploitation going on with porters etc.The cost of gratuities is normally in the cost of your trek.I assume you are thinking of going from the Nepal side. Darjeeling is in India you would need your passport and visa for India.
You can do Kanchenjunga from Sikkim but it is expensive. You would need to get tp Darjeeling get a permit here for Sikkim Go to Ghantok9four hours from Darjeeling) and pick up a group there.
Perhaps you need to do a little more homework on your trip.
Good luck.

Hi,
I went alone to sikkem , to do some trekking.
I can recommand PARDICK travel , in Gangtok , closte to the Tourist office..
Friendly , good guide ( norbu) and graet trek
You will need to do it with a agency , because they need to arrange your permit.
Great trek , starting in Yuksom , during 10 days
Enjoy it and say hello to Pardick company !!
