Hello,
I have just joined this forum and from a quick look at the other threads could not see any recent news about the Maoists and donations- I got back from Lukla yesterday so though would post an update for you.
There are no longer any Maoists asking for donations at Phakding, we passed through on November 27th and the lodge owners told us they had packed up and left a few days earlier (we came back down again on December 8th).
We had a great trek up to Everest basecamp and Kalapathar with superb weather- clear blue skies and great mountain views and few other trekkers around. It was not even that cold for example I left my waterbottle out overnight in Gorak Shep and it did not freeze, not bad for December!
It would be interesting to get updates on the Maoists situation in the other trekking areas in Nepal?
Cheers,
Roland Hunter
