You can drive from Kathmandu to Jiri (long 8-hour drive) and then you must walk
5-6 days from Namche to Jiri.

If you have the time start from Jiri a wonderful alpine like trek to Lukla and far less folk.You can be up and back from E.B.C.easily(all being well in 27 days.In and out from Lukla really does take away from the experience although I understand time is often of the essence.
