I just found this site that had a downloadable GPS topo map for EBC. http://www.aqpk57.dsl.pipex.com/ Does anyone know if there is something like this for the Annapurna sanctuary?

Sorry, no mapping information for the Annapurna region. The EBC region mapping sounds good - however the link does not work. I'm quite prepared to make a money donation by PayPal but need some confidence that the file will be available. Can you help?

Regards

As it happens I can help, I put it there. It's not a topo map though it's a series of configurable waypoints covering the whole of the Everest region based on the National Geographic Everest Base Camp map, very detailed. I know the data is good because I prepared it, took months, and used it when I treked for a month in he Khumbu last year, (Oct 05). Actually, you don't really need a GPS for treking in the Khumbu but it's nice to have the reassurance and of course it's fun!
I don't know why the link doesn't work, (somone has had a bit of a go at the site I think), but if you want the file drop me a line at holy***DELETE***THIS**STUFFstroller@hotmail.com and I'll send it to you. If you want to see what I was up to for six weeks in Nepal last year have a look at http://nepaltrek.spaces.live.com
my blog. Mind you it's huge stuffed full of pictures and text and to make sense of it you need to start at October 2005.
Happy Treking:)

Hi

On our old website we have a page of GPS and GoogleEarth files. These include Annapurna Circuit and basecamp, Khumbu including the trek in from Tumlingtar and out to Jiri and also Helambu, Gosainkund, Langtang. The GPS files are in GPX (GPS data exchange) format and with suitable software can be uploaded to your GPS. The GoogleEarth files are in kml format. Right-click on the file and choose 'Save As' and save the file to your PC ensuring it saves as .kml format. Then run GoogleEarth and open the file that you saved. You can zoom in and also tilt the view to see the terrain. The Annapurna Circuit file starts at Begnas Tal, goes round to Ghorepani and then to Chomrong before heading in to basecamp and finally out to Birethanti and NayaPul. This trek took us 42 days in Oct/Nov 2001. In the good old days of INDEPENDENT trekking!
