My film development crew and I will be travelling from KTM to Pokhara, then onto Kandhe in late November. From Kandhe we plan to trek to Ghandruk, interviewing Gurkha veteran's and their families.

Can anybody tell me what the Maoist activity is like in that area and what the current "donation" is.

Cheers,

Michael

We met maoists at Landruk, going from Phedi to Chomrong and the "tax" was 100 Rp per day . We also heard that there is a check point at Birethanti.

Many thanks for the update!

May I ask what the weather was like? We plan to stay in Landhe then trek to Ghandruk and return several days later. Our trip will be in late November early December and I've heard that the weather has been unusually cool/wet this season.

Cheers,

Michael

The weather was not so good.
Almost every day it was cloudy and it rained in the afternoon (fortunately not heavy rain).
The visability was poor generally except very few hours (or minutes) in the morning of clear sky.
But we were very lucky because we had very good view when we were at ABC (of course only 2-3 hours in the morning).

The maoist activities can be seen physically everywhere now. The capital city Katmandu has now witnessed maoists putting pressure on almost all the household on the outskirts of kathmnadu, Patan and Bhaktpur for free shelter to their cadres for two days on full board. Would not be surprised if some of the Thamel lodges put up their guests sharing rooms with some of the maoist activists.

Can you tell me what the political climate is like. We are filming in KTM and Pokhara, as well as Landhe and Ghandruk.

Cheers,

Michael
