Hi
I arrive in Nepal on the 15th Sept. As long as I get my trekking permit(s) before Oct 1st, do the current - not the new TRC - trekking rules apply?
Thanks

Hi,
I've just received an answer from TAAN (please see below). As you see TRC (and I hope porter/guide too) are not required if you will start your trek before 1st Oct 2006.
So see you on trail :-))

Dear Darek,
If you start your trek before 1st Octber you can
do it without TRC but not possible after September.

I'm doing the Annapurna circuit and ABC first. Then Everest - Gokyo. I think I know a way around this rule - just for this trip. Call me paranoid, but I don't want to give anything away just in case there are guides etc watching these posts. With a bit of imagination we can beat this rule for this season.
What I want to know is this: if I do the Everest trek and fly to Lukla, do I also have to buy flights for my guide/porter if I'm made to have one?

Yes, you do. And the prices for guides/porters go up to 20 bucks/day from 1 Oct. But I don't think you absolutely have to hire them from KTM. I am flying to Lukla on 2 Oct, will have TRC, but plan to hire a porter (registered one?) in Namche. My friends in KTM trekking busines say its possible. We'll see.

Can you recommend your friends in KTM. Maybe I'll will go and speak to them. I plan on doing a long (3 weeks) Everest Gokyo trek on the 17 Sept, and then Annapurna Circuit/ABC after. So looks like I'll get one trek without TRC and one with.

Perfil - will you have the opportunity to get your trekking permit before Oct 1? I note you said you are starting your trek on Oct 2... but will have a TRC anyway.
From what I have read so far if you have a trekking permit dated prior to Oct 1 you do not need a TRC...even if you trek finishes after Oct 1...
The reason I ask is that I land in KTM Sept 29 and hope to get a Trekking Permit that afternoon in KTM...then fly to Lukla the next day...I am hoping I will be therefore exempt for this particular trek...
Sounded like you might be in a similar situation?
