Hey, I know itm ight be a little off-topic but, I was wondering if it is possible to get a 4 months tourist visa right off the bat? Since I will be doing volunteer work for 2 months and then trekking in the everest region for another month and a half or so, I would like to get a 4 months visa from the beginning so I don't have to deal with all the hassle... Is it possible to do so? Also, do I have to go in person to renew the visa or it can be done by telephone? And If I have to renew while trekking, what are my options?

Thanks

Hi toaster,

At your entry you will get a visa for 60 days for usd 30. After 60 days, you personaly have to apply for an extension for 30 days. But they allow for special reasons an other 60 days in one time. Sometimes you have to write a special request to the boss in charge on the backside of the form.
They might ask you if your plane ticket is recomfirmed. So no big deal I hope.
Have a nice and pleasant stay in Nepal.

Thanks for the reply!
Since I already have my return ticket, do you think there would be any chance of getting 4 months right at the airport when I arrive?
I have read about the costs, and don't mind paying all at once..

I doubt it, but it might be worth asking.

I tried to get a 90 day visa from the Nepal embassy in London. They refused to issue anything other than the standard 60 day visa and told me all extensions have to be issued by the offices in Kathmandu. I believe you can get a visa extension from Pokhara, but I don't think they'll do it at the airport on arrival.

Yes I called the EmbassyConsulate) here in Canada and was told you could one get the 60 day visa when getting the visa out of Nepal. At the time I did not think to ask if it was possible to get 4 months if I get it in Nepal, but the lady never said it was impossible to do so. Oh well, Worth asking, never know!

It's a difficult area. In 2004 we tried to get a 30-day extension at Pokhara as we would be high-up in Khumbu when our original 60-day visa expired. The lazy s*ds wouldn't do as they said it was too early in the life of the 60-day visa. So, when we got back to KTM I had to do it there. No problem, they just gave us the 30-day extension without hassle. In the end, we didn't need it as I got bronchitis and we had to quit and fly home. That's life!
