Not to mention putting your life on the line if you dont pay them-are you really safe trekkiing to an area that allows these "Mao tax" people to have free access to your pocket. talk about no safety. absolute garbage!

This is extortion, plain & simple- and your funding rebel activity + giving the climbing comunity a bad name.

Ive been taught to conserve the land & make it cleaner for the other person- I just cant understand it... we're not helping anyone by allowing them to steal from you.

If people stay away only for that reason............the couple of roepies are less than a speeding ticket or driving through red. Don't let your holidays spoiled and just pay and mostly it's negotiable.
Nepal needs tourist and the Mao.......within the future, all will be normal again hopefully.
