Boulder, Colorado-based Explore Adventure Sports will host Nepal’s first-ever half marathon on November 12, 2006, to benefit the Himalayan Cataract Project (www.cureblindness.org). The run will fall on the ninth day of a 14-day adventure — The Nepal Trek and Trail Run (www.nepaltrekandtrail.com) — a journey through some of the most magnificent terrain on this planet.

The adventure begins with a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu (including a tour of the Tilanganga Eye Center), then a flight to Pokhara to begin the trek. The journey weaves through the lower-altitude Annapurna region of Nepal and has minimal altitude gain. Guides will lead trekkers through lush bamboo forests and rice fields, across many waterfalls and to stunning views of the Himalayas.

The half marathon, to be held on day nine of the trek, is mostly downhill — from an elevation of 9000 ft. to 6400 ft. -- through Rhododendron forests and mind-boggling valleys that reach as far as India’s border. Friends and family can trek ahead and meet runners at the finish line.
