Hi

Just looking up flights to KTM, average cost seems to be around £500 for end of March/beginning of April. Which airlines do you recommed? They all seem to be about the same price, are there any preferences?

Thanks

My preference is Gulf Air via Abu Dhabi.
But probably Quatar Airways offer just about the same service.

Edit: Actually, I'll qualify that...

Check the baggage allowance. Gulf permit a fairly generous 30kg, which is nice if you are inclined to load up on 'stuff' to bring home

And I fly Gulf because they did me a great service, on my first trip to Nepal. I left Cardiff on a bus to the Heathrow, full of excitement, it's usually a couple of hour journey so I had plenty of time. But as soon as we crossed The Bridge into England there were delays, apparently some lunatic had driven for 25 miles the wrong way down the M25 leaving a trail of mayhem in his wake. I was rather concerned when my flight was due to take off and I was still sat in a bus no less than an hour away from the airport.
When I finally arrived and explained what had happened to the check in staff they were very sympathetic. A quick check on their computer and they found another flight that would get me to meet my connecting flight to KTM at Bahrain, the stop just before I was due to join in Abu Dhabi. But there were no economy seats and it was boarding right now - no problem, they asked it to wait and gave me a seat in business class. :)
*phew*, that was lucky! Literally 15 minutes after I arrived at Heathrow, hours after my flight had left, I found myself taxiing down the runway with the hostess offering me a glass to champagne.

That made my stomach go into knots just reading that, the thought of missing the flight and the hassle factor involved! Some people are so inconsiderate, fancy driving down the motorway in the wrong direction!

I flew with Qatar last time and they were not bad, a bit of a fuss with the weight of the luggage because we had been told by the travel company we went with we could take 30kls, but when we arrived we were told we could only take 20kls, but in the end our rep managed to blag it so we could take it all without any cost, but of course we had the same problem on the way back, but Steve in our group who is a personnel officer and managed to sort it out, luckily for us, i was considering what i would leave behind, and my plastic boots were going to be one of them! But didnt need to in the end!
.
Lucky you being upgraded, was that on them or did you have to pay extra?

I think i might go with Qatar again as i know the routine and the airport at doha, but i will see, in fact its the airports etc that make me more nervous, than being on my own in Ktm, silly really, but there is no choice if i want to get there!

No computer available to me from now till the 30th Dec, what will i do!!!!

Read about Nepal of course!

Complimentary upgrade

I've just checked my tickets, it says "23k" but I did previously check that it was 30, hhhmm...... I'm gonna have to double/triple check that. It won't be a problem on the way out, but I'm expecting (on previous form) to be bringing back more.

(Happy New Year, for when you get back)

I have flown Gulf and Qatar. If you get the right flight you can have a short stopover (about 1.5 hours) with Qatar. Gulf was more like 8 hours. Gulf do have a bit of a rep for overbooking so get checked in early if you go with them. On the flight I had with Gulf there were 4 seats that had oil dripping on them from some contraption in the overhead bins. The engineers seemed unconcerned and the four passengers had to sit in the oil for the whole of the flight to Abu Dhabi. They were not happy. Flown 3 times with Qatar and never had a problem. Heard quite a few horror stories about Gulf air though. But they are cheap.

Bear in mind my information is at least 18 months old as I have flown Thai since.

Qatar's allowance is 30kg including hand baggage (the last time that I went with them in March 2004). I checked this out very thoroughly as I was trying to take 55kgs with me!
