The Political Situation
There are some fears about the country's political instability. However, the Maoists have stated that they will not target tourists and have welcomed them to come. Normally when coming across some Maoists a 'donation' is asked of about 1200-2000rupees ( 15-25US$). No tourists have been injured from Maoists..

Attention. The situation is quite worst right now. I am back from the Jiri-EBC treeking, and I met maoists in Bandhar. We were asked for 5000 rps. I disagreed and try to negotiate, however they did not agreed to receive anything but the first value. I paid, and after met a lot of other trekkers that were also obligated to pay the same amount. According to them, the amount of trekkers starting from Jiri is getting smaller year after year, what (in their understandment), justify the new price fixed.
For some people it was quite a nightmare, once this amount of money, in the hills (and even out of there!), represents too much, and its quite complicate to get more money while out there (Some people tried at Namche, but unfortunately did not make).
