Dal bhat, or fried potatoes with two fried eggs on top, or omelette with
no tomato sauce.
Why? Because they don't seem to serve neither paneer butter masala
nor fish curry, or sushi.
While trekking I often conjure up elaborate menus for meals I wish I
could have. Together with other trekkers I have indulged in reciting
recepies in painful detail for our favourite meals or vivid stories of fruits
we have enjoyed sometime, under a palmtree on a beach.
If I ever meet you on a trek I can tell you of Philippine mangoes or a
divine banana curd I had once in Bandhar. Actually I did not have it once,
I ate nine servings of it and enjoyed them all.

Boiled potatoes (they have such nice tasting tubercules in nepal...), with olive oil and salt. Nothing else. About one week into the trek I order them. Delayed gratification.

First thing in the morning after having packed the tents and kit bags when its -5C to -10C and the air is clear and the views stunning there is nothing like a bowl of porridge with sugar, it sets you up for the day. After all if its good enough for a nation of hairy men wearing skirts living in a cold damp country then it must be OK for a trek.
