i am planning to be in nepal in oct. i plan to trek the annapurna circuit. can anyone advise me on the following....
1) a ballpark estimate of how much i can expect to pay for an organized trek, for both lodging and camping. USD if possible.
2) a few suggestions as to finding the right trekking outfitter, or individual guides and proters.
i have been looking at some sites and feel that the companies prices are way to high. i know that i should be able to find a good deal when i get to nepal, but wanted to have a figure in my head as to what i can expect to pay. any help would be appreciated.

It is relatively easy to organise your AC trek once you arrive in Thamel. There are a number of trekking agencies etc.
I would say that if you go with one of the Nepali agencies in Thamel you could pay anything between 600-800 USD. However I might be wrong, as over the last few years I have employed an independent guide & porter privately, which I paid US15-20/day for the guide, and about 8-10 US/day for the porter. You can pay less than that of course, especially if you find a porter-guide somewhere in Pokhara. But I have some established relationships and decided to be a bit more generous... Food and accomodation on trek could be between 10-20 US per day, depending on how many soft drinks or beer do you purchase...
I would recommend one of the two following options (with both I have had good trekking experiences):
1) Santaman Tamang (independent guide): I have employed him 4 times, he's an excellent guide and human being in general. Has good porters to employ and treats them well. Very experienced and pleasant as a trekking companion. His email is
santamn@hotmail.com
2. Thirdpole Trekking: this is a trekking I trekked with them twice and they are very good, was happy with the experience. Their web site is

I hope this helps.

Hi, best bet is to use a recommended guide via the list on this website, and its always best to use someone you have confidence in. They're recommeded for a reason!

My wife and I used one of these guides, called Jagat Lama, highly recommended, and reliable. He'll give you all the details you need about internal flights and costs.
He's usually on msn messenger this time of year, send him an email via his site:

Good luck, you will love it!
