View Full Version : 4-5 day trek from Kathmandu

I have never been to Langtang and Helambu, so I am unfamiliar with this area. A good friend of mine is going to Nepal for 10 days and would like to make a max 5 day trek KTM-KTM. Those who know the area north of Kathmandu please recommend a route which would be a nice introduction to trekking and which could be done in 5 days by "normal people", including the transportation from/to Kathmandu.

Poon Hill naturally came to mind, but just getting to Pokhara and back eats 2 days...

I suggest following routes for Helembu trek.

Helambu Trek:
Duration: 6 days (one day by bus and 5 days walk)
Trek grade: Easy
Mode of trek: Teahouse/lodge
Mountains scenery: Gangchhepo, Dorje Lakpa, Phurigychu peak and many other peaks
Itinerary:
1) Kathmandu to Timbu by bus
2) Trek to Tarkegyang (visit Monastery)
3) To Tharepati (great views of Mt. Dorje Laka)
4) To Gulbhanjyang village
5) To Chisapani (sunrise and sunset, panoramic views of eastern part of Nepal Himalaya)
6) To Sundarijal/Kathamndu

Another itinerary: The following itinerary is good for “Normal people”.
1) Kathmandu to Timbu by bus
2) Trek to Tarkegyang
3) To Sermathang
4) To Melamchi pool/bazzar
5) To Kathamndu by bus

Trek around Kathamndu is also good.

Kathmandu –Chisapani-Nagarkot-Bhaktapur trek:

Duration: 3 nights/4 days:

Grade: Easy

Maximum elevation: 2175m (no risk of high altitude)

Trek style: Lodge (sleeping and eating at Lodge)

Culture: Hindu and Buddhist

Panoramic views of eastren part of Nepal Himalaya: Mt. Manaslu 8163m, Ghanesh Himal, Langtang Lirung 7234m, Gang Chenpo 6387m, Dome Blanc 6830m, Dorje Lakpa 6988, Phuri Chaychu 6600m, Gauri Shanker Himal and Everest region etc.

This is an excellent destination for viewing Nepal Himalaya, sunrise, sunset, Jungles, orchids, butterfly, birds, countryside and World heritage site - historical monument zone etc.

Itinerary:

01) Everest flight in the morning at 6:30 to 10:00 A.M then, visit Phasupatinath Hindu holy temple and Budhanath Stupa (Buddhist holy site) and to Sundarijal by Taxi/Macro van and trek to Mulkharka 1hrs
02) Trek to Chisapani 5hrs

03) To Nagarkot 6/7hrs

04) To Bhaktapur Dharbar square by Taxi or public bus and Kathmandu by Taxi//Public bus after visit Bhaktapur
