Tso Moriri - Ki, Tabo, and Kibber Trek, in Aug end Sept.
Hello Everybody!

I've got a route of the Trek from Tso Moriri to Kibber, but have no idea about making this into an itinerary. Where are the water holes, where to camp for overnighting, where would home stays be possible, etc. I would prefer it if the daily trek could be limited to 6 - 8 kms, if that is possible.

Also, how to include Tabo and Ki monasteries in this plan. It will be preferable to have a leisurely itinerary so that it's not too hard on the body, and also for relishing the remote beauty! Please include that which I may have missed. Are there any ancient, less known monasteries, villages, on this route ? Or maybe a lovely side trek which ought to be included!

I will be solo on this trek, or may have 1 friend, and will have a Guide cum Cook and Pack animals.

The Route is;

KORZOK
|
KIANGDOM
|
NORBU SUMDO
|
RACHOLAMO
|
DATANG YONGMA
|
DAK KARZONG
|
PARANG LA
|
BONGROJEN
|
JAGTHA
|
THALTAK MEADOW
|
DUMLA
|
KIBBER

Thank you!!:)

Hi Sudhir

as far as I know you need to complete this trek by first week of sept latest. I was planning to go the other way starting from kibber around last week of august and get to tso moriri within 7 days.. but now am not sure if I will make it..

We trekked this route last August/September. There had been serious flash flooding in Ladakh in August and this route was affected.

Where are the water holes, where to camp for overnighting, where would home stays be possible, etc.

You will have to get water as and when you find it and treat or boil it. This, and the availabilty of grazing for your pack animals will be the deciding factor on where you camp each night not on how far you want to walk each day. Many of the grazing areas in the Parang Cha valley were wiped out by the flooding and massive rock slides last August so the choice is limited. It will take time for the grazing areas to be re-established. There is accomodation in Korzok and in Kibber. From Korzok to beyond the Parang La, i.e. most of the way, you will not see a building.

This is a remote hike and you need to be fully equipped. The river crossings are difficult and dangerous. You must carry and use a rope for security. Try to cross the Parang Cha at the bottom of the valley at dawn when the river flow is at a minimum.

You are at high altitude, over 4500 metres for a lot of the time. Acclimatisation is vital. And as Sujoy says, you must hike by early September before the snows come.

It's a great trek through wonderful, wild country. I hope you have a good trip.
