First marriage ever on Everest summit
KATHMANDU, June 2 - Moni Mulepati, the first non-Sherpa Nepali woman to conquer Mt. Everest, has created a history by wedding on the summit of the world's highest peak.
Twenty four-year-old Mulepati wed with her team member Pem Dorje Sherpa after reaching the summit on Monday.

Mulepati and Sherpa revealed about their marriage upon arrival at the Kathmandu airport Thursday afternoon.

They said they wedded in presence of their colleague Kami Sherpa.

“This is a surprise for us as we did not have even the slightest hint about it,” Mulepati's father told Kantipur Online. He said that his family and that of Sherpa have accepted the wedding.

“We will arrange the formal wedding once the felicitation programs of Mulepati ends in the next few days,” he said.

On Monday, Mulepati, the team leader of the three-member Rotary Centennial Everest Expedition 2005 had reached the Everest summit along with Pem Dorjee Sherpa and Kami Sherpa.

21 climbers reach Everest summit today
At least 21 mountaineers set their foot on the top of Mt. Everest today, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation said.

The four expedition teams, which included 12 Nepalis, three Americans, two Singaporean, one each from United Kingdom, Canada, Ecuador and South Africa, successfully scaled the world’s highest peak.
