Dangima Sherpa retains Everest Marathon title

KATHMANDU, May 30 - Defending champion Dangima Sherpa retained Sunday his Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon title by finishing the race in 4:19:17: among 122 participants from seven countries. Bhim Rai chased Sherpa down to the finishing line but finished eleven seconds behind him, just to finish second.
Among the Nepali women, the defending champion Yangdi Lama Sherpa finished first with 6: 06:02 ahead of Ang Maya Sherpa, who recorded a timing of 7:06:45 seconds while Pemba Doma Sherpa finished the race in 7:17:07 to finish third.
Robert Celinski of Poland was the winner among the foreigners with his timings 5:34:02 ahead of Spaniards Barto Loma Ovetegels who clocked 7:12:26.
Sherpa, 26, a resident of Namche, Solukhumbu, was on the lead right from the beginning of the race.
The German Ambassador Franz Ring and French Ambassador Michel Jolivet jointly awarded the winners amidst a function.
