Ticket booked, three days sorted out at KGH at the start and a whole 6 weeks to look forward to in Nepal 19th Sept to 28th Oct great. I posted before asking how to hire a porter guide independantly, (Yakshaver was of particular help, thanks Yak) Now I have a question about cost. Simple really how much a day can I expect to pay for a porter/guide including accomodation and food? I want to pay a fair wage but I don't want to get ripped off. I'm looking to trek in the Everest region for about 3 weeks. Guide book information, (useful in many regards), dates so quickly so it would be helpful to know from someone that has done it recently.
Thanks in anticipation.

Hello Holy
Lots of greetings from Nepal.
It is glad to hear that you are coming Nepal in september and inetersted
in Everest region trek.Your are hearlty welcome to Nepal.
Concerning about the daily wages rate of guide and porter for Everest region. There is no hard & fast rule. The normal and quite usual rate is US$ 10-12 for guide Perday and porter US$ 7-8 Per day the cost includes fooding & Lodging. But you have to arrange bothway airtickt(Ktm-Luk-ktm) to the guide when you hired from ktm.
Everey guide & porter expect some tips from the tourists at the end of the trip so please donot forget to tipping them.
These are quite normal rate & system of trekking in Nepal.
Have a happy flight to Nepal.

Assuming you pay all your own cost, like accommodation, ACAP or National Park entry fees, food, drinks etc -
you would pay a guide anywhere between 15-25 USD per day and a porter 7-15 USD per day. It all depends on availability and "quality" of the person&services offered. Sometimes you can find a porter-guide (a rarer...person) for 10-20 USD. Even with the present drop in tourists - the very good guides, with top recommendations - are reasonably busy and booked in advance in the two peak seasons. This does not mean you won't find a good guide on the spot in Thamel or Pokhara...
The costs I have given include the guide's food and accomodation - for which they pay themselves.
The other thing with employing guides and porters independently, you usually have to pay their transport to and from the trekking start (like flights to and from Lukla, or bus fares to and from Pokhara/Naya Pul etc), as well as an extra day or two they spend going to and from the trail head.
However as cost of transport for Nepalis are much lower than for tourists, this would not set you back a lot...
And remember it is customary to pay a tip at the end of your trek, depending on how happy you have been with the experience.

It must be pointed out that you do not necessarily need a guide or porter ... esp if you go the high season
My wife and I (she is asian) are not young and we did the Ann circuit and ABC a total of 28 days and Everest BC (22 days) by ourselves and had no real problems.
Its very hard to get lost! having said that DO NOT Hike by yourself!
a group is much safer

Following NRs400 is terrible salary because there is Rs 300 (average) for the two times Dal Bat. How to pay for the tea and breakfast? What is the daily salary?
